Curriculum

Nurturing Environment

Nurturing Environment

All programs incorporate our SPROUTS Curriculum which spirals from Preschool through Kindergarten building on learning concepts for a consistent flow from grade level to grade level.  Jr. Kindergarten is a Kindergarten Prep Class that is Theme-Based with an emphasis on nature and agriculture.  All lessons and activities are based off of the literature for the day.  Each week, the students are introduced to new concepts that build on previous lessons to continually develop academic, social, and emotional skills such as letter recognition, science, and math while working on fine and gross motor skills.

Letters and Phonics

Letters will be taught in Handwriting without Tears order (straight letters first, then curves, then diagonals). This year, we are moving away from the traditional "letter of the week" routine to focus on a multiple-letter approach, which introduces small clusters of high-utility letters and vowels at a faster, more effective pace. By moving away from a single letter each week, we prevent children from losing interest and instead boost memory retention by grouping letters that look and sound completely different. Most importantly, teaching letters like m, s, a, t, and p together allows your child to immediately start blending sounds to read real, meaningful words—like "mat" or "sat"—instead of waiting months to build a vocabulary. This dynamic routine gets our young learners reading faster and connects their letters directly to real-world writing..

Numbers

The goal of numbers will be to recognize, count 1 by 1, verbally count, and organize sequentially 1-10 by mid-year, and 1-20 by year end. We will also work on simple adding and subtracting as the year goes on.

Note:   In regards to letters & numbers, we fully recognize each children develops and comprehends at their own speed. We will present table activities, games, circle discussions, and limited worksheets to guide their individual learning. Ultimately, they all will all reach these goals.

Literature:

We love reading stories to the class that entertain, educate, and broaden their thinking. We will ask questions as to what was the story about, who was the main character, what did we learn, etc.

Meet the Teachers

Ms. Jenny

Hi! My name is Ms. Jenny and I will be your teacher this year at Long Grove Country School. I am thrilled to be your teacher, and I’m looking forward to a year of learning, fun and adventures! I can’t wait to learn all about you, but first let me tell you a little about me.

I’m originally from Wisconsin. Where I obtained my bachelor degree at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. But for the last 5 year my family and I lived in Virginia. It was a wonderful experience for us. But we’re so happy to be back in the Midwest and be closer to our families. We have 3 daughters; ages 13, 12 & 8, a cat named Harvey Pickles and a dog named Packer (yes for Green Bay Packers).

I’m beyond excited to be apart of this amazing team. I have so many ideas and fun filled activities planned for this year. We will learn new and exciting things together and we will have loads of fun!
