LGCS has created an integrated curriculum that addresses core Illinois learning standards using farm and nature topics. Our outdoor education program melds traditional classroom pedagogy with the benefits of being more connected with nature. Children learn to be stewards of our environment while experiencing many lifelong health benefits of enjoying a healthy lifestyle and building strong motor skills. An outdoor education program allows for a hands-on approach to learning that is diversified for each child. Children can engage their whole bodies as they explore, learn, and problem solve. Basic to complex science and math concepts are easily grasped. Students will grow their expressive spoken and written language and artistry skills by explaining the world around them giving them a unique creative writing, reading and journaling foundation.
Our Erinchment programming is curated from nationally recognized, standards-aligned programs such as common core and 4-H. We have created enrichment sessions to help your child become a global citizen, steward of our Earth, strong leader, and a confident learner. Throughout the week LGCS offers interdisciplinary activities that integrate with science, language arts, social studies, reading, math, art, music, and civics. Groups will be broken up developmentally Preschool & Pre-K, Kindergarten-1st Grade, 2nd-5th Grade. While LGCS has never wanted to be a “daycare”, we welcome the opportunity to offer enrichment programs for those families looking for something more to enhance their child’s day or while their parents are working.
We know there’s a lot of great learning happening, but your child is just going to think they are having another fun day on the farm.

Children are given the opportunity to grow as a global citizen as they explore other cultures through age-appropriate activities. Each week children will write in their “passport” journal about the adventures they have listening to stories, creating art projects, learning dances and “traveling” the world. Expressive language skills of story-telling and writing will be stressed.
Children will complete activities that help them explore ideas of chemistry, engineering, physics, and math. STEM programs use hands-on activities to teach problem solving, creative and critical thinking, and inspire kids to explore science and technology. If your child loves to make crazy chemistry concoctions and build structures they will love Tuesdays on the farm.
Children learn to be stewards of our environment and local community as they explore and complete activities in our farm setting. We will learn about animal and farm life as well as the nature setting surrounding us through stories, hikes, songs, and activities. If your child loves to see the bunnies and enjoys our nature trails, they are sure to enjoy becoming a LGCS Green Keeper.
Children grow as they express themselves through art, movement, and language. Children will get to explore different mediums as they create free art projects as well as crafts.
Welcome to our wonderful world of Kindergarten! This is such a fun age full of dynamic growth development. Our lessons integrate our indoor and outdoor classrooms while following state and district pacing guidelines. LGCS offers full-day Kindergarten and PM Kindergarten Enrichment programs. Willow Grove will bus to and from LGCS for students participating in Enrichment Programs.
Many families do not want their children on an iPad all day. At Long Grove Country School, children will be outside as much as possible participating in our Outdoor Education curriculum enjoying the opportunity to learn from nature and the farm. The best part is that children are constantly exposed to academic concepts without feeling like they are doing school “work”.
